Review on πŸ“€ Toshiba HD-A3: Experience High-Definition 720p/1080i with this HD DVD Player by Dru Labrado

Despite the outdated format, a good deal for the cautious

You're buying an HD TV and you'll soon need a high definition DVD player. Most of the videos you watch on it will still be in standard definition, but even then you'll need a player that can upconvert them to look their best on this new set. The Blu-ray Disc player will cost you another $400 or so: oh, especially when you're already shelling out that much for the Tivo HD. In addition, there are rumors that the Blu-Ray format itself is about to undergo a major upgrade and disc player prices will fall after the end of the format war. What are they going to do? Buy this disc player for around $100. You can still watch all existing and future standard definition DVDs in all their glory after upconversion, and there are plenty of HD DVDs out there if you want to see what high definition DVDs can do. The only thing you can't see is the upcoming Blu-Ray DVDs (although most of those discs also contain the standard cut of the film). If you can do without this small advantage for a few years, you can probably buy a Blu-Ray player in a higher quality format at a lower price later on, or you will find that you no longer need a DVD player for digital downloads due to the switch. Of course, this plan doesn't suit the hardcore DVD collector who wants the next Spider-Man sequel in the best possible format, but how many new movies are good enough to actually want to own? With Tivo's excellent Wishlist feature, which allows you to record new releases in HD without having to connect a cable, and the Revain Unbox option, you have a perfectly adequate solution for the average viewer whose wallet is already stretched by the HD TV upgrade becomes.
