I thought it would behave like an original Apple Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter, but I was wrong. The adapter must be powered by the Thunderbolt power input (cannot only be used with an HDMI output connection). However, this was not my biggest problem. When you turn on the adapter and make an HDMI connection, the adapter will present a setup website for the user to visit and download software to make the HDMI adapter work. (Original Apple adapter does not require any additional software.) This software is not from the App Store, but unverified software from the installation website - that's a big red flag to me. be connected to the power supply in order to function. However, require me to install software from unknown sources on my phone and possibly compromise my data? Unacceptable.
