When it arrived I thought it was defective. I put the battery in and turned on the device. The anvil was so tight and torn that the ratcheting thimble could not even close the caliper, rendering the device unusable. I took out the battery and accidentally noticed the thimble spinning freely. After researching I found that the battery would rub against the caliper body if the battery door was fully closed. If you leave the battery cover open, the battery will no longer rub against the shaft. After some deliberation, I have decided that this defect is not enough to return the device, otherwise it works perfectly.
