I was really hesitant to buy this transmitter because of all the horrible reviews but given the asking price I thought it was worth the risk. This is the first and only transmitter I've tried, so I have no comparison. Maybe there are others that won't let me jump through hoops. So tires? Well, it only works well if I place the transmitter properly in my car. The layout is so complex that even one inch can make the difference between pleasant music and music full of noise. To find the right position, you must first find a good transmitter. As you can imagine, if you can't find the right position, finding the right transmitter can be difficult, and vice versa.1. Your first step should be to search Google for open FM stations in your area and start there. This will give you a reliable station in your area, even if it is not the best, but you need to find a reliable station first before proceeding with your search for the best one. Remove the antenna from the vehicle. I have a screw on the antenna that I can easily unscrew. This is very important to me. My theory is that with the antenna removed, the transmitter has less competition from the surrounding radio waves. Of course, that means I have to choose between NPR and iPod when I get in the car. This is my biggest problem with the transmitter, but I can say that it's also my only problem.3. Now you can start looking for the best place in your car for your transmitter and iPod. Where you place the transmitter, cable and iPod all seem to matter. I found a great spot in my car. All you have to do is play around and try all sorts of positions, because even an inch makes the difference between beautiful music and static. Holding the iPod and transmitter in my hands and moving them in the air, I can easily see how their position affects the signal. I imagine some people might not be able to find the optimal position, but for the price, it may be worth the risk.4. Optionally you can now go through each station 1v1 to try and find the best one. And these are tires. I had to figure everything out on my own with no guidance, so frustrated I almost gave up. I thought about the reviews here on Revain and I thought about writing it off as a lesson learned. I can easily see how people can say this transmitter is garbage when they don't jump or know they have to jump through hoops. I probably spent a good 2 hours, maybe 3, figuring all this out and I think most people won't have that kind of twisted patience. So I hope this review will help some of you avoid disappointment.
