Fits in my 5 gallon plastic canister but venting is impractical in my opinion. While several questions have been answered regarding the need for a 3/16" or 1/4" hole for installation, the one I received requires a 1/2" hole. ?) Homeowners don't even have a drill that big. Not to mention it looks like a friction fit, there's no ridge sticking out to hold it in place, and the cap on the vent is so tight I think it would be unintentional to just pull the vent out while You try to open the lid. I'll leave it, it's just as easy to use a screw. Oh, and no instructions, contrary to what was answered. Expensive for what it does and lightweight.
