This is my favorite spoon! Let me briefly explain why. I've had cats all of my 45 years. I've used pretty much every throw, tray and scoop available. First, let me address the size. It's huge! If so, you know. Let me tell you why big is better. If you only have a 5 lb cat with miniature poop: 0. I've always had multiple cats, so multiple boxes. A small shovel only covers a small area. oooh, if you really like spending five times as much time covering all areas and depths of the tray, skip that little scoop. This spoon is deep and wide, I can use 5 spoons to completely cover the surface of my large litter box. It has a thin edge that helps scrape unwanted material off the bottom of the box. Most shovels have a rounded or blunt edge that will only make your cat messier. Yes the holes are big and some sort of bail will fall through. I do NOT recommend using this scoop with any brand of non-clumping litter. This scoop is awesome, but only if you're using a quality clumping litter. and I'm not talking about neat cats. I use a Pioneer Smart Cat that I bought here on Amazon. I've also heard positive feedback about using Okoket filler with this shovel.
