Tried it. I gathered some stock to form the base of the coffee table. i am amateur I would insert the stem, connect and align the hinge, then tighten the clamp. When the clamp was fully tightened, she twisted the connection so the pieces were not flush. It was at a 90 degree angle but one board was tilted down a little. The edge was straight because it was the factory edge of the wood. This was very annoying and although I tried several times and with a few different pieces of wood I couldn't fix it. I sent these clamps back and bought another type (which I don't recommend because I haven't tried it yet) that allows me to tighten each side individually.
