Big fan of Higgins seed (it's for house finches, lads. Not for wild birds). I'm thrifty so of course I tried to find cheaper options. But I've found my Java Sparrows to scoop most other brands of seeds out of the feeder to look for the few types of seeds they like, wasting a huge amount of seeds in the process. This does not happen with Higgins seeds. So I actually get more bang for my buck with these more expensive seeds as my feeders stay full much longer and my birds don't waste a lot of seed. For reference, I keep Java sparrows, green songbirds, zebra finches, saffron finches, and pintail finches together in a planted aviary.
