Review on πŸ”ͺ Steelex D1067 800 Grit Japanese Waterstone: Exceptional Sharpening Performance Revealed by Brandon Skeet

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works, but it's not very pleasant to use.

I bought this stone in 2010. I've been using it for about 4 years now. I also have 5 other grains (200, 1200, 6000, 8000 and 12000). When I bought this stone I wanted a slightly coarser grit to set the angle on new knives. However, this stone does not have a good feeling for it. Compared to the #1200 steel stone I own (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DD1MJ/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), this stone is awkward to use. However, it works. I usually keep my stones in a bucket most of the time and change the water with each use. This rock doesn't look that great after sitting in the water for a while. It tends to absorb water unevenly and also molds easily. None of my other stones show this tendency. So I learned not to keep this stone in the water with other stones. As a result, I don't use it too much. However, when I need to sharpen a new angle on a new blade and don't want to use my extremely hard #200 stone, I still pull this guy out. The most important aspect of this stone is that it works. He will put your knife where you need it if you know what you are doing. However, the experience isn't the best if you get what I mean.
