It works, but it's not very pleasant to use.

I bought this stone in 2010. I've been using it for about 4 years now. I also have 5 other grains (200, 1200, 6000, 8000 and 12000). When I bought this stone I wanted a slightly coarser grit to set the angle on new knives. However, this stone does not have a good feeling for it. Compared to the #1200 steel stone I own (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DD1MJ/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), this stone is awkward to use. However, it works. No more dull knives

A workman is only as good as his tools and a chef is only as good as his knives. So what's the use of owning that expensive chef's knife if you can't keep it sharp as a razor? This stone works very well if you already have a good blade on your knives. If your knives are made of scrap steel, then this stone is not for you. Good medium grit water stone

I've been using this stone since 2010, about 5 years and it's holding up well. Given its thickness, I expect it to last a few more decades if not more (I use my stones about twice a month or so). First of all, it should be noted that this stone is not pleasant to use. What I mean? Well, some stones feel like nails on a board when in use. Using this stone is much more beautiful and pleasant.
