Review on Focal RSE-165 Auditor 6.5-inch 2-Way Component Speakers by Michael Briggs

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not what I expected

, I wanted a good set of components for my RZR to replace the poor factory MB Quart door speakers. The Ride Command system creates its own music playback problems due to built-in crossovers. There is also limited space for proper use of 6.5. I think that was all wishful thinking. The sound quality is better than the MB Quarts they replace, but the bass/mid-bass is still lacking. I knew I wasn't going to get much more midbass, but I was hoping they would sound a lot better, which they don't. I've yet to try them out, but they'll probably be my top priority (assuming they sound the way they should). If you want true focal and sound quality; I think you'll have to shell out for a more expensive line of their speakers. It's been a long time since I've worked in audio, but it doesn't look like anyone is making speakers like they used to. You used to be able to get a killer set of component speakers for $200 to $300. I'm guessing with the crazy price hike of everything, speakers are probably going to be $400-$600. However, I think it's still possible to buy really good speakers for a reasonable price. I just don't want to experiment, and you won't get the experience you need by going to a stereo store. The best speakers I have ever owned were the A/D/S AL6. They sounded great and had loads of bass/mid-bass to the point that turning them on makes you nauseous. I don't think they make speakers like this anymore. All 6.5-inch speakers seem to be more in the midrange. I'll update my thoughts as soon as I have time to try them out in the environment they were actually designed for.
