TL;DR: Overheating. overpriced. Don't waste your money; Instead, buy the Pengo HDMI Grabber at 1/3 the price and enjoy the native USB-C port to boot. It is sad. Elgato is a company I've bought products from for years, but rarely anymore. Having bought the Cam Link 4K on the advice of a consultant, I expected them to have the same quality I've enjoyed with their other products I've used for years, such as EyeTV. Default. Its big problem is that it keeps overheating and the feed from my camera goes black. Bad things that can happen during a live event. It happened regularly. So I sent it back to have it replaced thinking I just got a bad one. But the second did the same. Constantly crashing right out of the box. And I don't need 4K. 1080p suits me. I'm not sure if I know any of my colleagues who do this as we all stream video to web services which can barely deliver 720p so the HDMI Pengo capture device is perfect at 1/3 the cost and no USB 3 to USB-C adapter that plugs directly into my Mac Mini. After consecutive Cam Link 4K crashes, I can't help but touch the Pengo from time to time to see if it's warm, and it's always cool as a cucumber. I've been using it for more than 5 months, not a single bug.
