Review on πŸ”Š Digital Sound Level by Parts Express by Nick Howard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Looks accurate - very cheap decibel meter

I don't have a better meter to lay around and check accuracy; However, it's very consistent for things I measure frequently and for items I have in previous manufacturer specs. It has the lowest reading level of 30dBA. I wish it was lower, but 95% of the scenarios would be unnecessary as most rooms have "quiet" background noise above 30dBA. However, in a well-soundproofed room, it can be a good idea to accurately measure a few things (e.g. PC fans). I bought this primarily to test the noise levels in my office before and after a renovation (adding whisper clamps and 2 layers of drywall with green glue) and for general testing and monitoring. It's nice to know how loud certain things are and how they compare to the general background noise in the room. Overall I'm very happy with the price, this is a tool I've dreamed of for a long time and I hope it lasts for many, many years. At $20 it's definitely worth it - wouldn't pay more for anything else.

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
