Review on πŸ“· High-Quality Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG HSM Lens for Canon, Black, Compact Size (340101) by Abhi Abhi (Chen Zhen ᠌

It's not a bad product, but I expect more.

I still leaned towards buying 50 1.4 in favor of the correct proportions of faces and objects. From a distance, you can very similarly take pictures on the phone for yourself. Clients like their photos larger by 50mm than by 35mm. The phone can similarly shoot at 35mm focus, but the phone can’t shoot at 50mm, here longer-focus optics draw proportions differently, so you can’t shoot on any phone with shorter-focus optics. Therefore, my choice in favor of 50mm. There were 2 35mm lenses: 35 Art 1.4 sigma, Canon 35 1.4L. I didn't have both. In general, it is 50mm that gives proportions as our brain sees, that is, it refines the picture from the eyes. We see everything not distorted by curved lines, like with short-focus optics, like in a phone. 35mm reminded me of a drawing from a phone. This is IMHO. But Art can make this angle more artistic by blurring the background and adding unusual colors. Compared photos on IPhone XS and 5D Mark 4 with Sigma Art 35 1.4. on the same objects head-on. Looks like a similar picture to me. For those who are interested, there are examples of photos in the IPhone XS 64Gb review on the market. Therefore, for amateur tasks and travel, a good phone replaces 35mm. But 50mm is not. For professional tasks, the sigma 35mm is a very good help for the canon 35 1.4, both in price and in the picture. But if on canon 35 1.4 the camera can remove vignetting by 1.4 and make a ready-made good jpeg, then for sigma 35 1.4 each photo will need to be edited in Photoshop Lightroom to remove vignetting. This is not convenient for everyone who needs a ready-made Jpeg from the camera. Getting into focus is ideal only in Live View on a Canon 5dm2, I took a docking station for 4 mp, this did not really solve the issue. In live view, this is a great lens. But catching 50/50 focus is not for me, I would take a canon 35 1.4 from my hands for 45-50 than a bu sigma for 45. Fast autofocus is important for me in the viewfinder.

Pros
  • Beautiful colors, sharp lens at f1.4
Cons
  • There are distortions like on a phone compared to 50mm. Faces and vertical lines 35 mm distorts I will give an example of the same object on Sigma Art 35 1.4 and Sigma Art 50 1.4 head-on.
