I was looking for an electric ice cream maker that could make small batches in a short amount of time. . . and the Hamilton Beach Half Pint Soft Service Ice Cream Maker is everything! It is very easy to use and clean. My 12 year old daughter loves its comfort and versatility. She enjoys cooking individual portions and adding various additives. The machine chills the ice base and creates a nice firm, soft texture for serving in about 15 minutes, which then hardens in the freezer after a few hours. She usually can't wait that long and enjoys a soft serve. But if you let it harden, it will be like regular ice cream. I bought 4 machines so each family member can make their own ice cream at the same time. Very convenient. I had no problems lifting the lid or being unable to install. When my daughter first tried making ice cream, she didn't let the bowl freeze long enough so it wasn't cold enough to chill the ice cream. Base. You must follow the directions and be patient to completely freeze the bowl between uses. It does come with two bowls though, so one can be frozen while the other is in use. It's so hard to go back to our 5 liter ice maker that needs ice and rock salt!
