Review on Tamron 70 200Mm Digital Cameras A001NII by Andrew Kay

Great lens if 1. it can be focused and 2. doesn't fall apart

I've been using this lens with my Nikon D610 for 6 months now. I am generally satisfied with the image quality of the lens. I've used it on my travels in the US and Europe. I mainly shoot wildlife and portraits. Nothing too heavy, just regular use (less than 10,000 shots in the last half year). In retrospect, would I use the same lens again? May be. Maybe not. The biggest annoyances I find with this lens are 1. the focus (I miss a lot of frames because the focus wanders too much) and 2. it basically falls apart. Focus: I used different focus settings. on my camera for different situations. from 3D focusing to single point focusing and found the same problem. It takes quite a long time to find and focus on the subject, especially when moving from far to close. The easiest solution I could find was to switch to manual and then back to auto focus. This is very inconvenient when I want to quickly photograph wildlife (elk or bear). Falling apart: This is the first lens I've used that actually falls apart. The screws are very loose and fall out of the lens, especially around the front element. I've had it serviced twice in the last six months, which I find totally unacceptable for a lens that's supposedly intended for professional use.
