First I want to say how happy my husband and I are with this system now but first I will find some errors in my journey to find the best filter. I didn't know much about reverse osmosis systems or water filters or water properties (what is good, bad or necessary for our health). I was also looking for an affordable yet high quality way to drink clean water so I figured this filter would solve all my problems. he had his first gout attack. Then I started my research and found that there are studies that suggest that because the reverse osmosis system removes EVERYTHING (good and bad minerals and contaminants) from the water and because it is acidic, the reverse osmosis system tends to do it by extraction balance it out from other sources so that it removes minerals from your body. Absolute purity also corrodes metals, leaches minerals when in contact with metals, and does the same to our bodies. I started to panic internally knowing my husband was in excruciating pain that wouldn't stop and knowing it was my fault the lack of research. I contacted the seller and they helped me get the calcium filter I needed to stabilize my water. Seeing my husband in pain like never before, I thought about returning the filter. But I did more research and found that we need calcium and other minerals in our water. By itself, a reverse osmosis filter can potentially pose a problem for some people, but with the right research, you should be fine. My suggestion is to buy an APEC reverse osmosis filter with a CALCIUM CARBONATE FILTER. It's called alkaline instead of saving a few bucks. Why? Because research shows the importance of minerals in water and that acidic water leaches minerals from your body. Our body will try to compensate, and water does the same. Our body needs a certain PH level, around 7.3 PH, and acidic water has a different PH level than our body needs. I highly recommend that if you are considering a reverse osmosis filter, you install a filter that will balance the PH in the water. Some side effects can appear long after drinking acidic water, and it's not worth saving a few bucks and jeopardizing your health. Once you have purchased this filter, you can purchase and add a calcium carbonate filter. Just contact APEC CS if you don't know which one, they've been super awesome and helpful. It's been almost a month and we just got the calcium filter yesterday (February 18th), my husband is still recovering from gout but we believe it will help him a lot and hopefully never suffer from gout again. It's also worth noting that this filter will waste a lot of water, but as a conscientious environmentalist I can't stand the thought of adding more waste instead of recycling or reusing what we already have. So be creative. My creative way to avoid wasting wastewater is to fill jars and reuse them for dishes or plants. If you are using it for plants, it is best to let the water sit for at least a few days before watering the plants. It makes sense to me to reuse something that would otherwise go to waste. If you don't like the idea of washing dishes with "stale" tap water, you can water your garden or find other ways to reuse it. The TDS result will change when you add the calcium filter, but THIS IS NORMAL, it's just good stuff. TDS RESULTS: TAP = 44RO Average (without calcium filter) = 3RO with calcium filter = 15 But this also changed the PH. Please look at the pictures and also note that this is not the best PH tester because we bought it for an aquarium but we chose to use what we had to see the difference . We will buy a special PH tester for drinking water in the filter and possibly add a rating. Since I only got the idea to take the photo after a few minutes, it doesn't show the result exactly as I saw it at first, but it gives you an idea. PH comparison image: Note that the yellow square highlights the pH value. Notice that with the calcium filter the color becomes more neutral and at the desired level we need? Below the old filter is this reverse osmosis filter without the limescale filter. The color appears paler and more acidic. In the pink squares he analyzes the alkalinity of the water. Again, the colors aren't as strong because the stripes were already dry when I got the idea to take the picture. But in the future I may add here the results of my future tests for specific PH tests. Conclusion: We are VERY excited to finally understand more about what we need and how to achieve clean and healthy water. Do your research properly to find out more for yourself. It's not worth saving a few bucks to get a filter without a limescale filter. Better to think long-term. Also, this filter produces water that is wasted. Can you find ways to reuse and recycle the water? Customer support has been extremely helpful and I cannot thank them enough for their help. Mostly because I went insane inside when I saw my husband in such excruciating pain. We suspected it was a water issue because gout can be caused by many things, such as eating meat that we don't eat. We also threw away some other things that led us to believe it was a difference in the water. But we can solve anything, and from that I learned that it's important to do more research to make sure it's the right and healthy decision. I almost forgot to mention that filtered water flows slower when using a filter than from a tap. . Here's our tactical plan for filling 1-gallon jars while we're doing things in the kitchen. I timed it and it takes about 18 minutes to fill a gallon. That's not a problem for us, because while I'm cleaning the kitchen or cooking, I also fill the daily jugs with water. We aim to drink 1 gallon of water each. Now that we have that out of the way I would say this calcium filtration system gets a 10 out of 10. Buy with confidence, but do your research beforehand.
