Away with plastic POS!

Stupid plastic block broke after apparently being overtightened by someone. If this has happened to you before, throw that plastic POS in the trash and buy that metal block. Throw away the filter, lubricate the o-ring and you're done!

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Damaged

Perfect fit and finish

After owning my very reliable Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE for 5 years I have decided to replace the durable plastic oil filter cartridge with a more durable aluminum example. The fit was perfect and with the addition of Motive's 65mm oil filter wrench, a do-it-yourself oil change was completed in record time.

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Seems to be of good quality, let's see if it lasts

Seems to be of good quality but when I tightened the bottom connector to 25Nm it broke and I had to re-use the old connector (I have over 20 years experience with cars so I have nothing new ). Not sure if it was defective or made from bad material, seems to be working fine so far only time will tell

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • So-so

I took it to my local shop

I tried and tried to replace this part myself but the original oil cap was completely stuck to the car and all useful teeth to grip were broken off. . It only cost me $18 to install and even they complained about removing it. But seems like a decent upgrade, the original plastic is too flimsy and this one, the metal, should be easier to remove with my metal oil cap remover.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Some little things

Definitely get what you pay for

Terrible quality! The drain plug on the oil filter housing had a different thread pitch than the bolt that came with it. The cork is screwed in very carefully by hand and cannot be pulled out without a ratchet. When I finally removed the connector, it removed the first 2 strands but left the remaining strands intact. Aluminum, which used to be an internal thread, flaked off the external thread of the cork like grated wheat.

  • weight
Cons
  • old

Use aluminum sliding paste for threads! Then it's perfect.

Ideal for the car at a very good price. Be sure to use an aluminum based lubricant like Lubriplate on the threads that connect the cover to the case. The thread is very tight, aluminum metal on metal it can gall and jam, maybe not even secure to the end. Do not use copper based compound, it will react with aluminum and cause corrosion. The specified torque between cap and cartridge body is only 10 ft-lbs. Be careful and use a torque wrench. The person who changed the oil previously used an…

Perfect replacement

Toyota FJ Cruiser's factory oil filter housing was plastic. Mine eventually became a brittle mess and fell apart in my filter wrench after removing it. Needless to say I had nowhere to go until I had this replaced. I called local auto parts stores and none of them had this part. I called Toyota service centers direct and they had this part but they wanted to charge $180 for this exact part that is listed at Revain BUT in the original plastic part. I am happy with this purchase and glad that a…
