Trying to Get My Bearings with this HOM Cartridge Replacement

I recently replaced my shower system with a HOM cartridge replacement and so far, it seems to be doing the trick. However, I must say that I was taken aback by the three handles this thing has. Two are for getting the right temperature, and the third one is for turning the shower on and off. It makes me wonder if they couldn't have just combined two of them into one or something.
