Very heavy, leaves black marks on edges

First of all, the sanding block is very heavy at 3/4 pounds. Rubber edges that need to be folded over to secure the sandpaper. It's very cumbersome to change sandpaper (unlike the two-piece blocks I'm used to). Third, if you try to sand a corner and the side of the block makes contact with the corner, the sanding block material will wear away, leaving an ugly black mark. Otherwise it works fine.

These are great sanding blocks. . . except one

These 3M sanding blocks are easy to use, have a nice shape and use sandpaper efficiently. However, they have an annoying disadvantage. You will turn your workpiece black if the rubber housing rubs directly against the workpiece, e.g. B. when sanding along a corner. You should use the short end on the corners to prevent this. Considering their price, about 1/3 the cost at retail, a little caution is worth the difference. Incidentally, the more expensive black sanding blocks do the same thing.

Hard to pierce paper

I have never used a device like this so take my review with caution. I was annoyed that I couldn't pull the paper tight enough to lay flat on the surface, and it was also extremely difficult to spread the ends out so that sharp objects would pierce the paper. Like you need a third hand (or someone else to help you). Maybe I'm doing something wrong. The ideal design would be sharp objects with a slant so you can just slide the paper in and it will snag when you pull it back (no need to spread…

It's amazing that it ever got past the prototype stage.

When I first saw it I thought it was quite a fancy and original design. Conclusion after use: A good idea went completely wrong. 1) It's difficult, if not impossible, to get a tight fit on sandpaper. 2) If you try to sand two pieces of wood attached at a 90 degree angle, the unsanded one will end up with black spots running parallel to the sanded edge. I applaud the tire recycling effort, but this particular application is poorly thought out. I am really surprised that this product made it to…

Not quite the way it was fifty years ago

I have had two of these sanding pads when I first started woodworking about fifty years ago and they are starting to crack with age and use. I use them not only with sandpaper held between the flaps, but also with PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) sandpaper to avoid losing the paper under the flap. I also use them with drywall sanding grids, with the grid extending over the sides to avoid sanding lines. They feel good in the hand and I have two on hand in 120/220 grit. Unfortunately the quality

It's not worth saving about $10 compared to the 'orange' block

The 3M 'orange' block that we have is starting to wear on the edges after many hours of use too rounded to be suitable for my purposes. But the "Orange" costs about $10 more. And now I don't mind spending an extra $10 on it. This black rubber is "more brittle" than the orange one. breaks off easily; If you accidentally rub it against your work surface with the exposed part, removing the black spot(s) becomes a difficult and annoying process. And then there's the pitting that occurs: the…
