I had a hole left by a torn toilet paper holder and then our new dog chewed some more on his first day in our house. As a result, the hole was too big to plug with regular putty. This kit did it. I bought this to patch holes caused by a crappy ADT installation of their security system. I had 4 fairly large repair holes. I used to use wood on the inside to support new drywall. I bought it to see if it would be easier. Since my holes weren't as big as this kit, I cut the plastic backing to fit the holes (enough to fix the 4 holes I had to fix). I needed to patch a 4 inch hole in a concrete ceiling (painted, not actually drywall). For a hole that big I probably should have made a dowel out of scrap plasterboard, but instead I tried to fill it slowly by applying layers of joint compound.
