Great idea, poor construction

Great idea, poor construction. I purchased this for my grandson, I think it lasted a total of 2 days before it fell apart. Not worth spending any money on this. Sorry, you should consider durability and who will be using this product. I would pay more for a reliable toy.

Pros
  • Fun project
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is not durable enough for outdoor activities

For the Science-Minded Kid

My 8 year old son loves science. He has purchased a few items from 4M and has enjoyed each one. This was no exception. The Dynamo Torch is not energy efficient.

Pros
  • Cool project to teach my child about electricity.
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is not energy efficient

Cool gift. good for me

I purchased this product as a gift for a 10 year old boy. He really liked the torch, but he struggled to build it alone. He needed some help from his Dad, which was fine. Pretty cool gift for a low price.

Pros
  • Excellent
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch has a short lifespan

FUN! My husband & son had a blast building .

FUN!My husband & son had a blast building this together! Have bought several types from this company and they never let us down! Highly recommend.

Pros
  • The boys and I enjoyed the assembling. It is easy to do. And they use it to their adventure Thanks
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is too heavy for children to hold for long periods

Very disappointed in this product

Very disappointed in this product. Bought it for my STEM lab in March, used them starting late April and of the 6 I bought, 2 stopped working after the first day. I have already had to buy more since it is past the return date. I'm really frustrated that I couldn't get replacements.

Pros
  • 4M educational toys cover a wide range of educational subjects and include science kits, arts and crafts kits, robotics kits, and more.
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is expensive to replace if damaged

Great toy, my 8 year old boy loved it.

Bought it on revain, I think I paid $14.My kid thought this was the best gift ever.We enjoyed putting it together.Yeah, the plastic gears are a little iffy, but it works fine.Of all the toys he got for Christmas, this is the one he takes to bed at night.Good toy. Good job.

Pros
  • Bought this for my 7-year-old son. We had fun putting it together, and it worked great.
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is not a practical solution for emergency situations

Broke forever after it lit up one time.

We bought this for our son who loves science-type things and he really loved putting it together then seeing how it lit up. However, it lit up one time then stopped working. Forever. He took it apart and put it all back together again and still nothing. He was really (really) disappointed by that. The toy is very cheaply made and in my opinion, not worth even the ten bucks we paid for it.

Pros
  • Grandson loved it and uses it in his room all the time
Cons
  • The price is too high for the quality of the materials

easy to assemble for my opinion

Got this for my grandson, but my husband found it first and has had enjoyed playing with it, It is simple to assemble but the light does not continue when you stop cranking.

Pros
  • It was easy to understand and it worked.
Cons
  • The torch is not as bright as traditional battery-powered flashlights

My 7 yr old nephew LOVED it!

Well worth the buy! Quality of the pieces was good, durable plastic. The only thing was that his younger sisters dumped out the screws when no one was looking.Dad had to fiddle with it but made it work without all the screws. Definitely needs a helping hand if for a younger child but it's great to do a project with them. His face absolutely lit up when he got the light to work. My sister homeschools, so this is being used as an additional fun project to teach about science and mechanical…

Pros
  • I got this as a gift for my young cousins
Cons
  • The instructions included are difficult to follow

Let there be light!

We purchased this toy for our 8 year old son. He loved it. Once the christmas festivities was over, this was the first toy he wanted to play with and construct. It took barely 15 minutes to work with him to put it together and then he played with it for days. It really got him asking questions about how it works, etc. and he even observed that with the cover it come with it projects light, but if you use a soda plastic bottle as the cover, it projects a brighter, larger light. It still has him…

Pros
  • Learning & Education
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch's instructions are confusing

Good toy for 8-10 yr old boy

Thought the toy would be a bit more challenging to construct for my 11 yr old son. Also once constructed, the unit was somewhat difficult to move. Would be great project for younger person with parent.

Pros
  • 4M offers a wide range of toys and kits to let you build a clock, crochet a placemat, or turn your room into a planetarium--all in the name of making learning fun.
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch can be dangerous if used improperly

Works, but it's a little fiddly.

I bought one of these for my buddy's kids. They loved it! For about 5 minutes. At first, the light was very bright and stayed on constantly as long you were turning the crank. Then the light would hardly work. If you cranked it really hard, the light would come on for just a second. The problem is, the wires going from the dynamo to the light are very thin and don't make a great connection. As you use the torch, the wires loosen up and the connection gets worse and worse. I solved the problem by

Pros
  • Muy divertido mi hijo
Cons
  • Nothing special about this and it broke really easily

nephew loved it best in my review

my nephew is 9. loved it for christmas. perfect for using after "lights out" but i told him not to tell his parents that his aunt said so.

Pros
  • 10 year old was able to follow the clear steps and was thrilled with her accomplishment.
Cons
  • Cheaply made but a good isea

I thought when I bought this that it would be harder to assemble but I was pleasantly surprised. My 8-year-old built it in an afternoon with very little help from me. The LED is sufficiently bright to be seen on the ceiling during the day, and the easy-to-follow instructions also come with explanations of different electricity facts (we both liked that!). The cranking action has audible sound and the device does not hold a charge (it's not supposed to hold a charge) so my son was not able to…

Pros
  • Toys & Games
Cons
  • The Dynamo Torch is not reliable
