I got this for a stand up shower because we had problems with hair clogging, unfortunately the entire shower is lined with some type of material that sticks and Suction cups just CANNOT stick, so the suction cups on the underside of this or any other drain cover are completely useless in my case, but will probably work fine in a regular bathtub or most standard bathroom tile. After reading reviews of several hair-collecting drain covers, I figured this one would be the best fit. I have a shower stall with a square drain and a screw grate. The mesh catches quite a bit of hair, but I knew it wasn't up to the task. The tile in my shower is made of river stone and therefore has an uneven surface. I bought this for my stand up shower which is tiled. The 4 inch square drain in the tile floor has large holes and my hair runs down the drain. Unfortunately the suction cups don't stick to the tile floor but at least stay in place so when I'm done showering there is hair on it and even 1 or 2 strands are stuck underneath. The drain cover was big enough to cover the drain but the suction cups didn't stick to the slippery tile floor. I removed the 2 screws holding the metal grate to the floor drain, placed the rubber drain cap on top of the metal grate cover, centered and turned it upside down and secured the rubber drain to the bottom of the metal grate cover with 4" zip ties.
