GM/VAUXHALL/OPEL 2.2 Chain Drive Water Pump Sprocket Retainer Holding Tool - 8MILELAKE Garage Tools Review

Haven't used it in action yet but I own it and will be finished the day I fit a GM engine water pump. Reliable build quality and value. This makes replacing water pumps on GM 2.4 engines much safer and faster.

The only complaint about this great tool is that the bolts won't engage and fall out. This can be fixed with a couple of o-rings. This is a much better design than a half circle. It appears to be made out of more carbon steel so I would expect it to rust a bit.

Worked great to replace the water pump on my 2010 Chev Malibu 2.4 liter engine. There isn't much room to work with as you can see in my drawing (3 1/2 to 4 inches going from chassis to engine). I was afraid of dropping a bolt or socket into the motor because of the tightness, but this tool's design covered the entire hole. Required tool.

Many tools of the same type cost more than $60 and are not safe due to the impossibility of installing a screw in the motor. Without this tool I would never have attempted this job. The dealer wants $600 to run the water pump, I paid $150 for parts that included not only the water pump but also gaskets, a thermostat and a coolant temp sensor. Vehicle used on = 07 Saturn Vue.

The tool was easy to use, no problem of losing the gear bolts when removing from the water pump, saves time and helps a lot to complete the water pump replacement on GM engines ecotec 2.2 as well as 2.4 is cheaper than most tools that do the same, I would rate it ten stars in the short time I've used it.

Not worth the headache and frustration of using anything other than this sprocket bracket to replace the 2.2 liter ECOTECH engine water pump. With crescent moon options there is a risk of the sprocket bolt falling into the timing chain case. And by the way, the designers/engineers of this water pump should be removed and flogged! I recommend this tool over the part arc tool sold online/at auto parts stores. The full plate prevents the water pump sprocket bolts from falling into the timing chain case. It just costs extra money to eliminate that tension (in fact it was cheaper than some sub tools when I bought it). It really didn't cause any problems and didn't slow down the installation at all. YOU NEED THIS TOOL!

This tool has a small design flaw. It has no center relief for the water pump shaft "knob" to release it. This means that once you tighten it on the pulley and then pull the water pump out, the knob on the water pump will loosen, leaving the pulley slightly loose. If the pulley is tensioned enough, the chain tensioner can work, and then the chain will be too tight. This means you can remove the timing cover to reset the tensioner.
