I can't believe this works.

So I'm a HUGE fan of quality tools. For soldering, I choose the Hakko brand. But I needed another aspirator and after a recommendation but with some skepticism I ordered this KOTTO machine. First, I like the metal construction. I like that the power button is on the side (easier to reach than the button on the back). And what I like most is that this thing just works. When I turn on my IR reflow station, I usually belch out enough smoke to set off the fire alarm in my apartment. But with this…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Band

The fan is pretty quiet and durable and well built. Nice. I can't think of what it would actually be effective for, but it's not effective for lead soldering. Two inches is NOT a long distance. I had to mount this fan on top of the part I was soldering so it was close enough to "absorb" the smoke. I see through a charcoal filter. I doubt he actually "picked up" anything, but only a blood test will tell. What I've learned so far: The most expensive filters can filter particles as small as 0.1…

Stained Glass Soldering

I have been using this unit for soldering stained glass windows for about a year. This works well, to get flux smoke off my face when I'm soldering 60/40 about 5-6" apart. Also, it doesn't trap smoke. It's light enough that when I'm working with a large board I can apply it to the glass without damage within 6" there is no flux smell in the whole room, if you make stained glass you know that smell. So I don't have any scientific way to know if it works, but the lack of smell is a good sign🤣…

Pros
  • 0.4" activated carbon filter absorbs and traps solder, flux, chemicals, gases and helps prevent indoor spread.
Cons
  • Expensive

Simple exhaust fan, poorly grounded design

Purchased this unit in July 2020. This is a very simple device consisting of a muffin fan mounted in a foldable aluminum case. The case is pretty solid, with a small top carry handle. The AC power rocker switch is located on the lower right side. The power cord for the unit I received was 55 inches long, measured from where the cord enters the box to the tip of the AC plug end. This is the US 110V AC model. I tested the unit by placing it on my workbench and positioning the soldering iron about

Pros
  • Easy to replace filter, includes a spare filter. Working Temperature: -20℃~60℃, Power Consumption: 120V 30W (50/60Hz).
Cons
  • boring packaging
