Stick to AC Delco for trusted and reliable parts

My wife called me one morning to say my headlights were on. Since they're automatic, I kind of doubted them, but of course they were. I flipped the switch a few times and they went off. I locked the truck and before I could bypass it, they were alone again. A defective solid state relay was to blame. I removed it, looked for a replacement and noticed that it wasn't OEM but one from a local department store. The one next to it in the fuse box was an original Delco AC part and still worked…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model

My dad's '05 Lacrosse wouldn't turn off after the car was locked. He said it usually takes 15-20 seconds. He noticed that it wasn't, and would toggle it on and off from time to time. He had to pull the fuse when he was at work to keep his battery from draining and then turn it on when he left. My dad is 60 years old with no mechanical or engineering skills and I was able to get him to install it in 5 seconds over the phone (while watching a YouTube video of a guy changing it). This has since…

2002 Chevy Trailblazer - low beam intermittently off - problem fixed

My daughter's 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer appears to be fixed. Their low beams just went out intermittently, which was pretty scary. She was able to return home, but I advised her not to drive at night until I had examined her. When I googled the problem it turned out to be a common problem on this car as well as several other GM vehicles. For the Trailblazer, this simply meant ordering this part and replacing the #46 relay in the fuse box under the hook (on the driver's side in the engine bay).

2003 Trailblazer headlight issue - FIXED

So one day at 8:00 pm I'm on a driveway going onto the interstate and I'm speeding, my 2 year old daughter is in the back seat, in the car seat buckled up, I watch a video. I check if it's safe to drive when I get to 60mph and I have enough room to drive. My headlights go out. Immediate reaction was high , started looking for an exit to exit the freeway, after about 2 minutes and high beam, I see the exit, switch to low beam and phew they come on again, 'oh what heck that was I guess " Well the

My headlights are working again

Despite being an annoyingly expensive piece of plastic/electronic innards, my headlights stopped dimming intermittently at night. A small study found that some GM daytime running lights work by turning on the low beams at 70% output when the car's light sensor reports it's daytime. This component manages the 70% share and can probably only be explained by an electrical engineer. As a result, this relay is larger than a conventional relay; In fact, it runs every second as long as your computer…
