Five stars: Sensors

perfect. Installed on my '98 Chevy Silverado with a 5.7 Vortec engine. Now my temperature is displayed correctly on the dashboard. Many Thanks

Pros
  • solid design
Cons
  • unreliable

Check your thermostat first

In my case the thermostat was open so the engine ran cool all the time (no faulty temp sensor). I paid $6 to NAPA for a new thermostat and it's fixed.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Retail availability

OEM is the way to go

Exact match as expected with OEM parts. The original lasted 20 years so replace it with an OEM one. It's a temperature sensor in the driver's side head that breaks if you remove the head while it's still attached. Lesson learned. Installed in 1997 on a Chevy 1500, 5.7 engine.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Negative present

Let the engine cool and pull the old one out

Revain was the only place I could find this sensor, it's the one on the dash that goes down next to the driver's side exhaust manifold. Not to be confused with the thermostat housing that goes to the ECU. Delivered quickly and installation was easy. The threads were provided with pipe sealant. Allow the motor to cool and remove the old one. Put a new one in, you will lose some antifreeze so be sure to check the level and top up.

Pros
  • A few competitors
Cons
  • Clarity

Perfect sensor replacement for my 1998 Chevy Tahoe

My old sensor read like there was a short between the transmitter unit and the sensor unit so I replaced it with this one and it worked straight away. Perfect fit for my 1998 Chevy Tahoe. The threads are even sealed. As with all threaded components, but especially here, BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CROSS THE THREADS when installing this component. The replacement can be done without draining the coolant, but if you are unsure about pulling out the old sensor and screwing in the new non-cross-threaded

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly dented
