2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax

Worked great on the rear axle of my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax. Both sides started leaking and that fixed it. You need a special head for the spindle nut and be sure to fill in gear oil. The rear bearings are in an oil bath and leaving them out will not lubricate them properly. Happy spinning!

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Modern

Get the right 14-hole GM axle seal to only do the job once.

Matching axle seal for GM 14 studs The same seal as found on 2002 and newer trucks, has an inner rubber seal that fits into the axle tube. This gasket also works and upgrades your old 14 bolt so you no longer have a gasket sitting on the body. The only upgrade required is a Style Seal, a direct replacement!

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

This is an OEM seal!

Same as my 2505 GMC Sierra 2500HD. If you are a masochist, buy a cheaper non-genuine oil seal. As painful as it is to replace this seal, I think it's worth a few extra bucks for the OEM. Not to mention that if your Cheezo aftermarket seal fails again, you'll also have to replace your oil-contaminated parking brake pads and possibly disc brake pads again.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Problem

Ideal for spare parts

I have a 2005 2500HD. This was the tricky part to find and it took a lot of research to make sure I got the right one. Even the local parts stores didn't have the right part. This stopped the leak at the axle. Easy to change. Just make sure you remove all of the old gasket from the axle. Sometimes the middle of the old seal sticks to the truck. Mine wasn't difficult to remove, but the old gasket fell apart and some of it was left on the truck.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.

Fits 2002 Dual Silverado Crew Cab

4 inch 10GA hoses work well for pushing (sliding) these seals onto the hub. It fits snugly onto the axle shaft, so be sure to lubricate the inside of the seal and its shaft (Teflon grease worked great). I suspect that the early failure of these 2-piece seals could be due to possible loosening of the hub bearings, which can happen especially after fitting new bearings (probable problem at the factory as well). (The outer bearing outer ring will eventually move inward until it stops, which is a…

  • Good product for the price
