Small board, small problem

Sometimes you just want the smallest Arduino-like thing you can find. This is the case as far as I can tell, with a SAMD21 processor. But for me it turned out to be useless because the boot sequence means it takes a second or two after powering on for your code to run. ATTiny85 turned out to be my answer.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Tiny, powerful, inexpensive, has 3 touch switches

Switches are always a problem with small embedded processors. They must be fixed mechanically. They are sensitive to moisture and abuse. Using a capacitive switch requires a connection to an isolated small metal object and nothing else. This processor has three such switches. And it works with CircuitPython.

Pros
  • Enjoy
Cons
  • Some problems

Easily the best gimmick in single board computers

Bought one of these to control the neopixel ring. It uses 3.3V logic but will work with the ring if the VIN to the ring is also 3.3V. Out of the box with PlatformIO (which I can't say about the original trinket) and the Adafruit Neopixel library. It also has a built in Dotstar RGB LED that works great with the Dotstar library. Great little board.

  • Price
Cons
  • Can't remember

Amazing little gadget

Amazing little gadget when I started playing around with all the Arduino stuff I bought one of these because it had Python plug and play capability. it looks cool Just an FYI for those just starting out. This world of microprocessors is incredibly long and complex. But if you're patient, the reward for a flash of light or whatever you create is pretty cool.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Null

Incredibly powerful Arduino in a tiny package. Great if you only need a few I/O pins or can control many actuators and sensors with I2C. Circuit Python's functionality makes downloading programs trivial - just plug in a USB stick and it will appear on your computer as a USB flash drive, then simply drag and drop the appropriately named program file onto your hard drive!

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast.
Cons
  • socket required.

The best gimmick. suitable for computer components

I've used these tiny things on several projects. I log into TRINKETBOOT and flash the firmware using the Arduino IDE. Remember you can use UART and I2C together or SPI separately. If you use SPI you lose UART and I2C. And remember, if you're using UART for serial communication, it's actually Serial1 in your code. for example. Serial1.print("Example"); It is not shared with USB. The Dotstar LED is internally connected to the digital pins D7 - data, D8 - clk

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Works great with Python, can't be configured for Arduino IDE

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong or doing something wrong which is causing the problem loading the config in the IDE, but it can only blame the manufacturer for not giving adequate instructions. Modules delivered quickly and in good condition. Most importantly, they are recognized as USB devices by my computer as they must be from the factory. I can edit and save python files in the module but it just doesn't work with the Arduino IDE.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Good board, Chromebook issues

I won't blame the board for this as it seems to be common on several boards of this type such as the Seeeduino XIAO etc. I'm weird and I do all my embedded projects on a Chromebook. Arduino, esp32 and esp8266 devices connect to Linux and serial ports work and life becomes easier. There will be no M0 type boards and the Arduino IDE will not find them. Other than that, programming with makecode and the like works just fine. I really like the form factor and functionality in general. Need to…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Secret
