Description of ADSBexchange.com 5.5dBi N-Type Female Antenna (1090/978 MHz) - 24-inch: Boost Your ADS-B Reception!

N-type Female connector. Pole-mount bracket included (2-inch max diameter). 1090 Mhz/978Mhz. Compatible with all types of receivers including ADSBexchange, FlightAware, FlightRadar24, AirNav Systems, RadarBox, and more. Unlike most other ADS-B receive antennas, this 5.5dbi antenna not only receives the 1090Mhz band, but also the 978Mhz band. While it performs well for 1090, adding the 978 capability can enhance coverage of general aviation aircraft in the US, as well as expand reception of 1090 aircraft if you are able to receive the ADS-R signals from one of the many FAA-run ADS-B towers in the us. (Requires second SDR and software setup to receive 978) N-type Female connector.

best antenna for ADSB

The antenna is easy to install, easy to connect and outperforms all other antennas I have tried for ADSB. Even higher gain antennas can increase range but also cause problems with aircraft directly overhead or too close - this seems like the perfect compromise and provides the optimum signal for receivers - 5.5dB gain and dual band Tuning make this a great solution

Pros
  • understandable also for old
Cons
  • neutral

Great antenna! on accessories and consumables

Wow! I read that placement is everything. However, I can't help but think that the antenna itself is more important than the toy antenna that came with my NESDR. I went from an average of 4 planes within a 50 mile radius to dozens up to >250 miles. Yes I routed it to the roof using an LMR400 coax and also split the signal to a second orange FA for UAT. 2500 registered positions per day -> more than 25 thousand.

  • Beautiful

Works perfectly! I doubled the range ADS-B

This antenna was worth upgrading. I am using a Flightaware ADS-B RPI station and with the standard indoor antenna I can only get up to 50m. This antenna has allowed me to double my range while still using it indoors. I would like to install it outdoors as another local user gets 200m with their rooftop antenna. Because it's a bit heavy I used the included mounting hardware and attached it to a 5ft antenna mast.

What an upgrade! for AV accessories

Great antenna compared to my previous DIY can antenna. 1000 messages sec. For comparison, in the screenshots of the diagram, I received the antenna on the 12th (transition day), so the 11th is the old antenna, and the 13th is the new antenna. Multiple reasons to buy this antenna Supports the hobbyist network and also supports 978MHz unlike the FlightAware antenna. I understand there are some bad points in my setup such as being in the attic and using RG6 so I would suggest dropping those…

Excellent antenna for receiving ADS-B

Tried several different antennas including several homemade antennas and two ordered from AliExpress. This one beats them all in number of aircraft tracked and range. Tracks 300,000+ locations over the last 24 hours, including 2,500 over 250 miles away. From the north, I'm somewhat blocked by the North Georgia mountains, but it helps that it's at 1,300 feet and about 45 miles north of Atlanta's busy Hartsfield Airport. This antenna is installed in my attic. I'm using a TV preamp and a…

Looks great, no complaints so far!

It's hard to compare the performance of this antenna to any other similar antenna because I've gone from an indoor hand held antenna with no resonance to this rooftop thing. Needless to say, it kicks the butt of the indoor antenna pretty thoroughly. Switching to this one went from about 40 messages per second to about 250 using a 50 foot 9913 coax. I have yet to cut the coax and add a filter, but even without these settings I'm more than happy with the performance here. The antenna design seems
