It works, that's what matters

So far for a limited time this programming cable has worked as advertised. There is not much more to say about this. Would definitely recommend.SR

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Wire Excellent Driver sucks

Overall it worked but the CD that came with it locked up my computer so I had to find the driver offline which took about an hour and after that I was able to get it working without any problems.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Good but not great

This works for both baofeng uV5r and uv82.

I don't usually write reviews. I tried different cables including the one with the Baofeng mark and the cable that comes with the radio. . None of them worked, not even loading the driver etc. This one I just plugged in and it showed up in Device Manager and I was able to load the configuration from each radio.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Unreliable

You get what you pay for

After watching almost a dozen YouTube videos and trying to code each time without success, I started reading the comment sections. It turns out that this cable is garbage. More than half of the comments warned against this and similar cables. Unfortunately I had too much time to return. Lesson learned. I just assumed that all cables are the same. A piece of copper wrapped in rubber. Not this case.

Pros
  • A few competitors
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Doesn't work with my two Beofeng UV5-R

This works for some people, never worked for my two Beofeng UV5-Rs. I tried closed drivers several times with CHIRP, no. Tried the online suggestion of using old Prolific drivers but no fun. It appears to be a Chinese counterfeit of the original Chinese Prolific chipset. Came back and bought a genuine (hopefully) BTECH cable. At least I learned how to program HT manually, but it's a headache.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

What you should know about this cable

Just so you know this is a very popular cable. Know you're going into this because you need a productive and productive rider. Also note that this is open source software. I have a Mac and it was difficult for me to install it on my computer. If you go to the website they have a PDF. Save yourself a headache and aggravation, read it carefully and follow it step by step and you will be fine. If you're using a Mac, there's an extra step when installing the software: you'll see a padlock in the…
