Description of Akadama Bonsai Soil By Tinyroots - Sifted Through 1/8 Inch Mesh Then Through 1/16 Mesh, Dust And Small Particles Removed, Also Used As A Succulent Soil

Bonsai Akadama: Used by Japanese master gardeners. Akadama soil is mined in Japan from volcanic soil. Once extracted its dried and sifted to various grain sizes. Provides Drainage: Aeration is important for healthy root growth. Akadama has the ability to absorb water while spreading nutrients to your bonsai trees roots. Sifted and Dried: Tinyroots akadama is sifted through a 1/8" mesh and then through a 1/16" mesh to reduce the sediment that is bagged. Visual Indicator: The volcanic soil darkens when wet which provides an idea of when to water your bonsai or succulent plant. Multiple Uses: Can be used for as a succulent soil for cactus and other indoor plants. Also beneficial for conifers and deciduous bonsai trees.

Type of review

I like that for the price it is fairly consistent, you will need to sift the fines out which could entirely be the shippers fault or happen during storage. Another plus is that this is fairly workable when dry compared to some other akadama soils I have tried. Once wet, water retention seems on par with other more expensive akadamas. I cant speak much to how long it lasts or freeze/thaw cycles as that wont happen where I live but first impressions are very good!

Pros
  • Came quick. First time dabbaling in bonsai. Seems the product is performing as advertised.
Cons
  • Some users may find the process of sifting through the soil to be tedious

I thought my bonsai was DEAD!

My bonsai was dropping leaves like crazy.I read up on repotting it, and found great reviews for the Akadama Premium Bonsai Soil. I repotted my bonsai. In the 3 days since, my plant has over 12 new shoots! This stuff is a miracle.

Pros
  • Must buy for succulents!
Cons
  • The soil may contain high levels of salt, which can harm some bonsai species

Excellent for all of my bonsai but.

Where did it go? Right in the middle of re-potting season, there is no more to purchase. I really love this soil as do all of my trees. I ordered 5 more bags but they were out of stock? Excellent soil if you can purchase it.

Pros
  • I'm using this for my cactus and succulent mix.
Cons
  • The soil may retain too much water in humid environments

New product for me but it's what is recommended

Since I am just starting out with my new Hobby the Bonsai plants I am following the recommendations and some suggestions about the types of soil available, Akadama seems to be mentioned on different video and websites. I am still beginning so I can't tell you how well it works because there are so many factors to being successful with all the different types of plants.

Pros
  • first time using akadama and it seems to be really good quality, no complaints here.
Cons
  • The soil may not be able to retain nutrients for long periods

The perfect addition to my mix

As we mix most of our own soils, I gave this Akadama a try. So far I am loving it. It darkens up when wet so knowing when to water is easy. Added to our regular mix this was a perfect fit.

Pros
  • Good product at a fair value.
Cons
  • The Akadama soil may not be suitable for all types of bonsai trees

Akadama soil - my new review

I used this product to repot one of my Bonsai trees. I found it worked very well and easily In filling the air pockets. I found it will be important to Properly fertilize at regular intervals since the material is inorganic. I’ve never used this type of bonsai soil previously so it will be interesting to see the results.

Pros
  • I am so excited to use this for my sansevierias
Cons
  • The soil may contain too many granules, making it difficult to achieve the right consistency

Reused soil filled with very very thick roots

Quite disappointed with the quality, it’s horrendous how many roots are in a single bag. Both bags I have were problematic.

Pros
  • Works really well when re potting bonsai plants
Cons
  • The soil may break down too quickly, requiring frequent replacement

My plant died with this material.

I Bought this to go with another purchase. The plant died after I put it in this material. I am not sure if it was the soil or the other pant, but it was disappointing to have the project fail.

Pros
  • Using this as the barrier between soil and succulents. It adds a special look to the planter as well.
Cons
  • My bonsai was doing great, then I added this soil and my bonsai was dead within the week. Don’t buy!
