I used Askahiya SAI color pencils to practice Chinese calligraphy with different colors, my hands were perfect. I loved them more than Pentel and other brands. However, when I bought Charcoal Gray I had a very different feeling. I feel the tip was heavier than others I have used and the result was as good as I expected. Were there any quality problems? Or did the color of the ink cause the problem? Why?

I'm a big fan of these pens. Very easy to handle, very easy to use. Dries quickly, spreads, drips or runs. I had two "seasons" in Japan just on a whim. A few months after I started using them, it took me another two months to complete the set. I've mainly used them for greeting cards with other media, but now I've started using them for cartoon color fills and they work well for that too. I love these pens. I have used them on handmade postcards (watercolor paper). Various techniques can be used with them, I used a piece of plastic to apply the pigment and a Pentel WaterBrush to pick it up and paint the watercolor effect. I've more than succeeded in getting it straight to paper and trying to dilute it with water, especially as I prefer a softer look. I recommend Jennifer McGuire's YouTube video, which demonstrates these brushes and inspires how to use them. I love that they mix!
