Description of Enhanced Intel/Altera Cyclone IV FPGA Development Board - Discover the DueProLogic Advantage

Intel/Altera Cyclone IV FPGA includes 6,000 Logic Elements with two clock multipliers. The Cyclone IV FPGA is the perfect balance of inexpensive cost versus plentiful logic cells, 20KBytes of SRAM, and General Purpose Input/Output pins. This is a great board to learn how to program FPGA's. Built in programmer cable allows configuring the FPGA with a single Micro-B cable. The DPL can be powered from the USB cable or from the Barrel Connector. A separate JTAG header can also be used to program the FPGA using a compatible USB Blaster cable. 6x6 LED Array allows character and animations to be displayed at ultra fast speed. LED blocks can be individually turned on/off to allow LED signals to be used as I/O's. 70 Inputs/Outputs originating at the FPGA are available at Stackable Headers organized around the edge of the board. The user can configure these I/O's using the FPGA project code. The DPL contains two oscillators, 66MHz and 100MHz. The 66MHz oscillator is used to provide clocking for the EPT ActiveHost USB communications core. The 100MHz oscillator can be used by the user clocked up using one of the onboard Clock-DLL modules.

No support - driver problem

driver installation problem - although I went through the installation step by step. Ask them for (email address) until you hear from them.

Pros
  • single board computer
Cons
  • weight

The description of the board sounds great for training and projects. After much confusion and many tries I got this board working with the .sof and .pof output files. As another person wrote, Earth People Technology does not reply to emails but lists them for support. So I gave the DueProLogic 4 stars but should probably only get 3 as I spent a week getting it to the point where I could send both file types to it. I used Earth People Technology's JTAG Blaster hardware device to send .sof files.

Pros
  • Computer and accessories
Cons
  • threadbare

Use a good micro USB cable. My circuit board is defective.

It was difficult to get this set up on my Windows 10 machine - the instructions didn't match what was going on (which is frankly normal for Windows). I've tried all sorts of tinkering - seems very sensitive to how "good" your micro USB cable is - I've tried three before it all came to fruition (more or less). After that, it is no problem to create a demo design and a PC application. However, this board has a short circuit or something, so it is replaced again.
