The length of the tip is the decision!

Many reviews complain about the laces being too long. I was also of the same opinion until I realized the length is for the heel lock. Search "heel lock" on Google or Youtube to find out how. With the closure at the heel, the length of the toe is perfect as shown in the picture. Also, the heel lock prevents the foot from shifting in the shoe (due to the big toe box), another complaint I had. Thanks to the heel lock, the shoes now fit perfectly. Give him a chance!

One of the best I've had

I have bought 4 pairs of different Altra shoes including Loanpeak 1.5, Superior 2.0, Escalante 1.5 and these. These are undoubtedly the best. I love everything: the toe box, the tongue, the width, the energy return, the upper layer material, the extra cutout at the top of the laces, the color, the design, the treads, the hood is all right. The only shoe that was better overall was the Brooks Cascadia 9, but that's a whole different beast. These shoes are the bomb. It's unlikely to get anyโ€ฆ

Can't ask for more in a shoe

No dropping, enough cushioning for my muddy/sporadic rocks and rock groups, huge toe box, comfortable. What more could I want from a shoe? Some people complained that the laces were too long so I hoped to buy new ones. NO! Shoelaces are perfect, just long enough to tie tightly with a double knot. Learn to tie your shoelaces, noobs. Put them on and break my PR on a 4.5 mile stretch. Switching from the Brooks Ghost 9, which had a huge heel drop, was just crap for my running form. LOVE THESEโ€ฆ

Some good, but mostly bad

Pros:* Roomy toe box is standard on Altra shoes* Lightweight* Tongue doesn't move because it's sewn into the boot on one side Bad:* Grip in the wet surfaces and rocks TERRIBLE. Somehow these brand new shoes don't handle rocks/boulders much better than my half worn road running shoes when trail running and hiking * I can feel EVERY little twig and rock through the sole like there is no cushioning at all. I slipped on and off the included skirt guard and it certainly helped, although it cost meโ€ฆ

Felt like old cheap water shoes.

I've been using trail running shoes as hiking shoes for a couple of pairs now, and I also run trails in them from time to time. I like to trade stability for agility and weight. So far I've enjoyed this exchange. They are extremely minimal and I thought that was a good thing before trying them. . . They looked like cheap 90's water boots to me. They just slipped around my feet. With every climb, I slipped sideways with every step. In mountainous and rocky terrain it was safer and better without

"Inadequate " to run

Simply put, they're poorly constructed. I'm not even a runner, I only use them for walking and they're already falling apart in just two months. The forefoot of the shoe is wrapped in a soft synthetic coating that appears to provide structural support for the minimalist design. . Unfortunately, the seam for this boot is on the inside of a thinly lined boot. I trimmed my toenails short but my big nail keeps getting caught in the seam. The lining is worn, so the seam is now even wider. I caughtโ€ฆ

Like walking in socks, but with a train. Light and comfortable.

Compared to my Merrell Trail Gloves, which I really liked, these shoes feel lighter and more comfortable on a flat, wide foot. The materials of the foot cover, toe protection and midsole are lighter and therefore more comfortable than cushioned socks, but the protection is also light. I use without stone protection inserts as I ride mostly unpaved trails with soft rocks and roots. I feel the ground beneath my feet, and only some of the larger, more jagged rocks are uncomfortable. SUPER PRACTICAL - But.!

I AM A SATISFIED FAN with my Altra Trail shoes! They fit well and felt VERY comfortable from the moment I stepped into them. Great shoes! (I had polio so I'm SUPER SPECIAL about the shoes I'm wearing!) HOWEVER, someone at the Altra was asleep at the wheel when they tied the laces! The laces are TOO LONG! So disgusting. Even if I "double" my shoelaces, they're still dangerously LONG! You can trip over it! (I think I should include a picture so you can see I'm not exaggerating.) I don't know howโ€ฆ

Escalante's softer off-road cousin

I still have a pair of Superior 3.0's which I mainly look at as they are nearing the end of their lives. I chose 4.0 in comparison. The 4.0 looks more like a street shoe than a trail shoe. The exterior has been completely redesigned and is now made from a more stretchy material. Although I initially found it comfortable, it seemed the longer it was on my leg the more it stuck to my leg. This was a downside for me as I like my shoes to be a bit loose and feel like they can breathe. The sole ofโ€ฆ
