Finally Altra shoes that fit

I've returned more Altra shoes in the last year than I can remember. None of them suited my old positions so well. Most were too tight. These Provision 5 fit almost perfectly. I'm glad I took the plunge and bought them.

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • No instructions

Sneaker smaller than expected due to padding

Good shoe but runs small due to extra padding on heel. They place bean-sized pads on each side of the heel. This is good, but pushes the foot forward and makes the shoe look too small.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Damaged

Great shoes for road running

The most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. The cushioning is amazing. It's an unattractive wide-toe shoe that looks like an orthopedic shoe, so I only wear it for running/walking. They go with many running shoes, which means you should buy half a size larger than your normal shoe size if you intend to wear them for running.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • So-So

Too narrow for Altra

I needed a wider toe box so I wear Altra first. This didn't work for me. I've worn provision for 2 years but can't extend their lifespan anymore. If you don't have foot problems or have wide feet that require a wider toe box, these will likely work for you. My husband has a pair of these and loves them. Position 6 is better for my needs.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Why is ALTRA trying to reinvent shoes?

Good ALTRA makes the wide toe box perfect. However, they add all these other ridiculous tricks to their shoes! These shoes are very comfortable, like walking on clouds. However, the laces don't go through the tongue, so you have to constantly pull the tongue back when walking. I had to stop 4 times during the 5 mile hike to get my tongue back to its original position. There is a very odd wire in the laces that pulls that second leash around your foot. Fine, but why? Please leave ALTRA aloneโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Negative present

Great shoes! good for road running

I have used the Altra Escalante 2 and found it very good. I needed to buy a new pair of shoes and decided to try the Provision 5. I have loved these shoes since I put them on. They were comfortable, width was great not wide, I have a medium foot size, I like the rails and arch support, nice colors, cushioning is just right for road running. You still feel connected to the ground when supported and cushioned. The Provision's tongue was much softer and longer than the Escalante's, which I like aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Not the best
