Incompatible ingredients in the order.

Well this is my 3rd time buying this recipe. The third time, the sacks of hops and grain are different. I think they ran out of a guy. And just throw another one. In general. Good beer, but some consistency is fine if you want the same flavors in each batch.

Pros
  • Everyone likes it so far
Cons
  • Only available in black

More brown than red

46-12 oz bottles produced. The color is more brown than red. Moderate foam, mild taste but not bitter. True Brew Red Ale has the best flavor and red color, but it's also more expensive. 12/02/18 updated my previous rating to four stars - let this ale mature for 10 weeks and the flavor and body will be much better.

Pros
  • Absolutely gorgeous!
Cons
  • Some issues

Great beer for the price

A very solid set for a beginner. I brewed about 4 or 5 of these and bottled them in our store's kegerator. Slightly malty flavor with a slight bitterness. Slightly stronger than other ambergris, but not overpowering. Depending on the batch, they were sometimes a little sweeter than I would have liked, but still quite drinkable.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are some nuances

My best experience with homebrew starter kits

Finally a chance to cook and taste. It tastes similar to other ambergris, such as Stevens Point. There's something about it that doesn't make me want to buy it again. I am having trouble finding a good amber as another brewer has removed theirs from their website. Maybe it's my taste buds. If you have a better beer please let me know. Don't feel like throwing $$ to the wind

Pros
  • Outstanding design
Cons
  • Not quite as good as it says

I am impressed! for home brewing and wine making

I haven't even finished this bottle yet and it's already great. The perfect balance if you ask me. It's out of the bottle but tastes like draft beer. Great set for the price. I followed the instructions exactly. My only secret was to use Eldorado water, which is used at the local distillery. If they don't filter their water and buy great spring water instead, then neither do I.

  • GOLS certified

Expired yeast! - Brewing

Well it had to happen. Pretty much everything I've ordered from Amazon has been fine. I think so too, but the yeast pack is baked in and 4 months has expired. Also, the box looks like it's been on a shelf for a while. Bought as a gift for a relative's guest and no time to go back. Ordered fresh (hopefully) yeast ($16) and moved on. Just for info! ….Follow up. Really very good beer!

Pros
  • Done
Cons
  • Reliability

Let it mature for a few months

I bought it as an Amber Ale a few years ago, the first home brew. At first I thought it was just ok, but after it had matured for about 1.5-2 months, it tasted 100 percent better. The one thing about this kit and all homebrew kits is that the instructions are simple and generic. There is more than one way to brew beer, even extraction kits. As long as your equipment is clean and you have a good fermenting temperature you're fine, and if you're new to brewing don't worry it's the only beer.

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Not the best

Good buy for $30 in home brewing and wine making

I quickly looked through the listings of kits and calculated that beer brewing items cost around $40; good price of $30 on revain. I will write later about the quality and freshness of the ingredients in the kit; and how it tastes after I brew it. Nice to get a hop bag and bottle caps as a bonus. This kit took about 90 minutes in the kitchen after I cooked everything, very easy. Update (3-1-18): Beer turned out well. It was a light, medium-strength beer with moderate hops and a decent…

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Bad yeast - didn't ferment

When I first started homebrewing, my first handful of batches were brewed using these Brewer's Best extract kits. I have never had a problem with any of these kits until now. The dry yeast bag I received was from a different brand and not vacuum sealed, which was not typical of other Brewer's Best kits I've seen before. Followed the directions as I always do with kits, they don't change much from recipe to recipe. A week later my gravity readings hadn't changed and I was now left with a useless
