Good soldering mat for light projects

This is a pretty good mat for electronics (disassembly) assembly. The bright yellow color is not what I would call "stylish" but it has functional value as small details can be seen very well in contrast. In my case, the dimensions were perfect for a small pedestal that was just gathering dust. Additional tools may or may not be useful depending on what you already have, but it's always good to have a spare. I can easily recommend it as a companion gift along with an electronics starter kit.

Excellent repair mat and basic electronics tools

I bought a magnetic solder mat to use for small home electronics repairs. It came in very handy for my first renovation project. It was great to have small magnetic sections to hold small screws. I've only used the included tools to disassemble a Nintendo 2DS with a cracked screen and the mat held the pieces well and kept the system from sliding around. My next project will be soldering something. Great renovation carpet! There's a decent selection of basic electronics repair tools that reallyโ€ฆ

The mat isn't bad, but the compartments don't always stay closed; Tools are cheap

EDIT on this review for incorrectly stating that there is no electrical connection between the button connector and the alligator clip. I didn't know that an anti-static strap was supposed to have a resistance of 1Mฮฉ - as soon as I switched my meter from continuity to resistance measurement, I actually found a 1Mฮฉ connection. Hence the rating upgraded to 4/5 - one star removed because the compartments often open when the mat is moved or stretched and are difficult to close fully, and alsoโ€ฆ
