2nd purchase: 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Bought last year, fits very tight but works well 4 stars. Broken today 1 year later. I got the part and tried to take the top off to inspect the thermostat and gasket and the damn screw was cemented in place so it broke when I tried to get it out. Spent the last 2 hours digging out the bolt and cleaning the threads with a tap. Long story short, I couldn't get the bolt all the way out, so I'm screwed for a few more days.

  • Decent performance

Completely out of service after 1 month - junk

This case looked good, was installed normally and appeared normal at first. I noticed a very, very small coolant leak that I could smell and track, but couldn't figure out where it was leaking. I suspected one of the seals or hose connections but couldn't find the problem. After about a month or so it got a lot worse and one day it crashed. The plastic stitching came loose and began to leak profusely. It was only a partial defect. Very bad quality.

Full package of services!

I ordered this build for my 2001 Sport Trac. I came fully assembled with a new thermostat and both sensors. This case is a known problem with the 4.0 engine as the bottom of the case will only crack and leak when your engine is running above 2000 RPM or so. Finding this leak drove me nuts for months until it got so bad that coolant was flooding the top of the block. As soon as I removed the bottom knot I saw a tear that was over 2 inches long. I would highly recommend this replacement unit and…

Do not use the built-in thermostat

Replace the built-in thermostat with an OEM, Murray or Stant thermostat. After installing this unit, the coolant temperature will fluctuate widely. Go from seeming overheated to normal in a few moments. With the weather approaching zero, the last thing we need to do is behave like this. The Murray thermostat was replaced with an aftermarket one and everything was back to normal. The build itself is fine and we appreciated the added sensors, but having to go back and work on it again was a bit…
