I compare them to Marinepure Biomedia. They appear to be legal. What confuses people is that it's a gallon sack and not a gallon weight. Great product and def. will invest more. Unbeatable at this price. Highly recommended for anyone keeping a heavily manned tank or tank.

I would choose a different medium. The main problem with this medium is that it breaks easily (dust/crumbs). It was in my old canister filter and for aquaphonics but both systems had the same problem. Try something different. There is an Australian company that sells good media. Not on Amazon. Find the bulkhead fittings and they should pop up (something Aussie).

My nitrates have exploded! Black algae develop everywhere. Did everything I read or was told. Eventually I came across a website dedicated to this product. He said it wouldn't hurt to try. Have you. I rinsed mine and left it in purified tap water for a while. After about a week the nitrates were back to normal! Now my water is crystal clear! Algae stay at bay! A NOTICE. I cleaned everything again before using them! Very enthusiastic and highly recommended!
