🐠 Marine Aquarium Protein Skimmer with Pump Hanging Filter, Ideal for Internal Water Tank Saltwater Filtration (#1) Review

It works in my aquarium (fish only) but I wouldn't use it for a reef tank. There were no assembly instructions. If you look at the photos on the packaging, you will see that the skimmer is fully submerged in the pool. The slimmer cannot be operated fully submerged. The collection container must be above the waterline.

This skimmer scoops and removes organic matter until the water level in your tank changes even one iota. So in my tank it's about 2 hours. Another issue is that it falls off its mount at the slightest touch, so removing the drip tray resets the entire process. It swings around, it's actually quite bulky. I would keep looking and spend a little more money.

I put this in my new 6.5 gallon tank and it either picked up water quickly or didn't pick up at all. But after about a week when my aquarium started to work I noticed that bubbles were forming and it was working as it should! I held mine where there was no water in the cup until it started working, which meant the whole cup and part of the hose was sticking out of the water. Perfect for my aquarium compared to some other skimmers I've seen! If you had the same problem, just give it time!

I was very skeptical about this skimmer but for the price I decided to give it a try. Much to my surprise, it works great! The included basswood is also just enough to create enough bubbles to be able to take it off. Made some modifications (cut off a few pieces from the outside to fit my hang-on-back retreat). A 4 star product considering the price. I have a 55 gallon seawater tank. I replaced the wooden air diffuser with a 1" or 2" Lee's brand diffuser, which you can also purchase at Revain.
