Aqueon Quietflow Internal Power Filter Review

Super efficient filter, I had to add a second filter that could be placed on the bottom of my 20 gallon hex tank to also suck in extra food. That works great.

I bought this filter a few months ago to prepare for a build I had just completed the hardscape for. Today I was finally about to install the filter and the two thin plastic clips holding the nozzle came loose immediately. I am very disappointed as I now have a ready to install tank with no filter. Never buy this item again, I am disappointed that I do not get my money back. $40 off.

My biggest problem with this filter is that I have to buy a new one every year. YEARLY. It's quiet, and when it works, it works. Every spring when it breaks I go through the same process of reading reviews and disappointments and then inevitably buying the same filter hoping that filter will be the one to hold the 1 year mark. They are built for performance, not durability. You know, if you buy this filter, you buy a new one in 11-12 months.

3 month update: This filter does not work. The noise and vibration levels it produced were pretty bad. My crabs hid and my fish went mad blaming the noise/vibration this filter creates in the tank. It filters water quickly, but I wouldn't recommend it. Small size in the tank. This is a big plus. You can alter and add your own biological substances. The noise level is low, but it produces sound. Low hum. No flow adjustments, just the directional control is a little disappointing.

I replaced the external filter on the Aqueon 45 with this internal filter. It was a gamble but my 29 gallon tank is fine and the fish seem happy. Reason for the change. We moved the tank and the external filter vibrated against our bedroom wall, making it louder than usual. This inner 40 is silent. Indeed.
