The base station has always been the weakest link: it turns off a lot and I lose all my cameras. Finally, there is the wireless Arlo, which does not require a base station. It works well. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't have a removable battery, so I can't charge a spare battery and have it ready for a swap.

Like other Arlo cameras, they are easy to set up. However, the battery is a big mistake. Successful loading is only possible when performed via a computer, as recommended by ARLO Support. So you're screwed if you don't have a computer. After a full charge, it only lasted 2 months with very little activity. I will turn back.

BE CAREFUL. The camera is easy to set up. However, unlike other Arlo cameras I have (4), this one requires a subscription to save any of the triggered events. I didn't notice this requirement in his ad and it was only after I called support that I was informed of the subscription requirement. The camera notifies me of the triggered event, but doesn't save the clip (temporarily) like my other Arlo cameras. Very disappointed with this requirement.

I have a full Pro 2 system in my main house and wanted to set up Essential as a standalone beach house. I couldn't get it to recognize the code to set it up after trying all the troubleshooting tips Netgear listed, and I think it's because Orbi is a 5/2.4 scope with the same name, so the code is still generated for the 5 GHz band. Therefore, the device does not recognize the code and does not connect to the WLAN. I had high hopes but was sadly disappointed that I couldn't set it up.

Do not buy ARLO products. Do not purchase solar panels that are not attached to the camera. Don't waste money. They don't tell you about the $250 one-time fee for the firmware and all the wonderful things the non-English speaking tech support guy tells you about. They don't tell you anything about the monthly payments just for the 7 day record. BUY NEST. I learned my lesson the hard way with Arlo 2, Arlo 3, Spotlight with camera. I can give you 7 reasons why you should NOT BUY Arlo.

I really liked these cameras. Three months. Then my "free trial" expired and they're basically useless now unless I pay at least $10 a month for some crazy subscription service. Without it, all of those cameras will notify you that someone was in range of the camera. By the time you are notified and check out, the animal etc is gone and you can only hope it is not in your home. Received Friday loaded. stayed up all night, spent 3 hours on saturday trying to get it to work, then chatted for another 3 hours before finally getting it to work. There are no instructions for this yet and Google searches are misleading for this new Arlo camera. Chat managers were also not very familiar with it, and they had to install and remove the camera many times, do a factory reset, something could only be configured on the website, something only on the phone.
