Description of Astromania III Filter Produces Near Photographic

2" O-III Filter greatly enhances contrast during visual observation of gaseous and planetary nebulae in all sky conditions. Astrophotographic 2" filter allows high-contrast imaging even in areas with strong light pollution. Especially useful for large aperture telescopes through which the light of the Moon can be extremely overwhelming. Allowing just for the Double Ionized Oxygen lines between 496mm to 501nm to pass through at 95%. Completely blocks virtually all other visible wavelengths of light so views of nebulas are optimized. Increases contrast through selective filtration-Anti-reflection coated to prevent glaring and ghosting. Not only useful at light-polluted sites; the contrast is also increased at dark sky sites, can be used with all 2" eyepieces. Filter made from high-grade glass with dichroic interference and antireflection coatings. Each Astromania 2" O-III Filter is individually inspected and proudly inscribed with the percentage of light transmittance of the two O-III emission lines.

Astrophotography with accessories

Causes an odd dim glow around some stars, but not all. Maybe this is a specific area of the filter that I just managed to eliminate.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Good price and excellent performance

This filter is very cost effective, good for nebulae and distant galaxies. I recommend this filter as an alternative to more expensive versions.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Tradeable

Good quality 7nm OIII filter for the price

I was a little wary of buying this OIII filter because I use it for astrophotography and many other 2 inch OIII Filters cost three times as much. I've only used it once but so far so good and I'm getting acceptable results. Five stars for good quality at a more than fair price.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons

Mine wasn't good for astrophotography.

Although the filter seems to pass the Oiii wavelength fairly well, I get very strong halo effects on some of my stars. I'm not sure what's causing this, but of the many filters I have, this is the only one I'm having trouble with. Unfortunately, this makes it unusable for my purposes. I've attached an image demonstrating the problem.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Not for astrophotography. Terrible halos

As you can see in the attached image the halos produced by this filter are insane for any serious application in astrophotography. I was not able to extract better contrast for OIII in the Crescent Nebula, although data are available. You just can't do more than what's shown in the picture without inflating the halos (which are already too powerful) some more. This is a very cheap filter so expect pretty poor performance.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Only available in black

Don't let the low price fool you

I'm a hardcore space veteran and now have my fifth scope, the 18" Dobsonian. On a whim, I decided that I needed a filter with an even narrower bandwidth than a UHC (Ultra High Contrast) filter to sample the Vela supernova remnant from the ultra-dark skies of Big Bend National Park, Texas. I was afraid to take this one because of its low price, but I was on a budget and I was in a hurry. I'm glad I got it. It worked. Freezing my cock at 3am on a cold, crystal clear November night gave me the…

Pros
  • I have my fingers crossed for you
Cons
  • sad packaging

Here, too, Astromania filters combine good value for money!

I think the filter thread is great, the filter is clean and the delivery is fast! Just a note: this filter produces a green image on monochrome cameras. I tested it and found that it reduced light to 1 full stop, which means the exposure time is at least 2 times longer than the exposure without a filter. I tried this on M 27 (the Dumbbell Nebula) and it did a great job separating OIII from the nebula (greenish image). The second image shows the colors with no filter (note that the red tones are

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Affordable AstroMania Nebula Filter

AstroMania O-III 2" Filter - Great Value! Unboxing photos showing how securely it was packaged Shipping information was sent to me by AstroMania and the package arrived within of the specified period. The filter itself comes in a very nice plastic case which is even better than what I have had with other more expensive filters. As this is the only O-III filter I own I could see it visually I didn't compare it to other brands of filters, so I compared it to UHC filters instead (one from…

Pros
  • Slim Design

  • Infinitely Sluggish
