By far the best hardware in its price range

I fully equipped my unit with four 10TB Seagate Exos drives, two 512GB SSDs (cache only) and 16GB RAM (that's more than the processor manufacturer and Asustor has stated a maximum of 8GB, but when it recognizes 16GB I haven't had any problems yet). The hardware is top notch and comes from the folks at Asus. The only limitation I have is that I come from a Synology machine that is 4 years old and the software is definitely more user friendly than Asustor. If you like working more with software…

Don't lie, there's a steep learning curve if you plan on using at least half of the tools

So far I've only had one issue that has stuck with me. Rebooted the next morning and it's been running ever since. Very fast if you can use the 2.5Gbps LAN port. By bundling 2 network adapters on my computer, I overcame Gbps file transfer speeds by moving files to them. The thing is definitely a streamer. Unfortunately, Asus' built-in video server isn't up to the task, but there are several other options with Jellyfin that are free and very easy to set up. I looked at 20-30 NAS models and this…

Reliable NAS

Works well, connects from anywhere for any file on the NAS but has trouble running a Plex server on it remotely. The Plex server works fine locally and is said to have been available remotely but didn't appear to be working. It looks like a double NAT conflict or something. So I moved Plex from there to Nvidia Shield TV and I can access all my files in Plex on Asustor AS6604T through Plex server on Nvidia Shield TV. So more reliable. And NAS also works illegally. A great all-in-one that can almost replace your desktop computer and more.

Great and easy to set up and use for mail server, web server and media server (with Plex) as well as for backing up all your devices plus a security DVR camera. Love online video courses that teach you how to set it up and use it. Can also be used with HDMI as a PC for home cinema. Hard drives cost more as the size increases, which increases the price significantly. You also need to add 2 caching SSD disks to increase speed. Also replaced the factory 8 gigs and added another 8 gigs of same type
