Used Off-Road

I've always used a CB off-road but decided to step into the world of VHF/UHF. Be sure to customize the Chirp software because it couldn't be easier. Sound quality is good, battery life is decent, and mountain coverage is as expected.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • A bit of a change

Great radio but beware

This is a great radio for the price. However, note that this radio cannot be used without a license from an FCC technician and the FCC will be looking for you. It also covers frequencies banned to all but aviators. Listening to the broadcast is allowed, but never broadcast it as it may result in jail time. I mean all of that: make sure you don't let your kids play with that radio.

Great overall value for this feature including Baofeng HT

Ideal for a bag or even as part of your HAM Shack, this little HT has more power than most HTs. It can hit our local 2 meter repeater more than 16 miles from my house. Reception is good, speaker quality is good, functions in combination with CHIRP for programming are excellent. Slight learning curve for manual keyboard programming, but worth the effort in the case of SHTF. Overall 4.5 out of 5 points for this version of Mirkit 5R.

Ensure all features and aspects work as advertised

Although I have given this radio and its seller a full five stars I have not yet programmed or used it in real life, not yet confirmed all is fine. I'm worried about getting and using it. I like its small and compact package. As tested so far, the sound is excellent. This is the second Baofeng I've bought. The first, from another seller, had to be returned due to a charging problem and the seller failing to fulfill their commitment to customer satisfaction. So I went with it. Let's see how it…

I ordered this radio as an alternative to BaoFeng BF-F8HP. However, based on the decent reviews, I gave it a try, although hardware-wise the radio works well as expected. However, I found that there is a problem when I try to program it with the latest Chirp software. I get an error message stating that the radio's memory is incompatible when I try to select certain channels such as B. frs/gmrs channels, from the default configurations available in Chirp. The seller (Mirkit) claims to use their

Best economy transceiver on the market

I upgraded my existing Baofeng 5W handhelds with two 8W handhelds. Now I can hit local repeaters with extra power. I'm a real fan of Baofeng and can't wait for the next iteration which should be in the 12-15w range and will buy again for an upgrade. You can't go wrong with this radio. Love the fact that I can program the altitude reading with a name and the depth reading with a frequency - cool! If you have the programming cable (required) and the free CHiRP app, you can connect over 120…
