Incredibly useful for charcoal painting

I've recently been working on a project to reprint a series of 10 Spooky Stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. I wanted to use charcoal to illustrate each drawing because I felt charcoal would best emphasize the dark subject matter of his stories. At first I tried to draw them only with charcoal pencils. While the black and white images were okay, they just didn't feel right. They weren't very thin. I spoke to a couple of artist friends and they all said I need some quill sticks. Smearing the charcoal
