Borner slicer in mandolins and slicers

This slicer works very well and you MUST need the guard sold separately. My only criticism is that it cuts very thin. I've also had no luck with softer foods like tomatoes, but that may just be due to my inexperience.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Damaged

I love it! Mandolins & slicers

So easy to clean. I just rinse them under warm water and let them air dry. Very easy. I recently bought another slicer which I returned because it was very heavy and bulky. It is great. I don't use a holder (they aren't good with any chopper). I bought a glove to put on and you just have to be careful when cutting vegetables into small pieces. This is the kind of slicer you see on cooking shows. Easy.

20+ Years Customer Review

I still have my original 20 year old V-Slicer that I bought at the Sacramento California State Fair for $39. Came with all attachments and accessories. My wife told me I would never use it, but I did and it lasted longer than marriage. Anyway, I had to go to the ranch and get more Borner clippers to get different cuts! PS The Börner planer lasted longer than marriage!

  • Great for me

Replace Food Processor

Ordered after seeing others. Looking for a way to make potato chips at home. That's great! Another review mentions that onions are cut so quickly there is no time for tears, they were right! Cabbage made quick and easy! So easy to clean that I'll be using it instead of a processor for cutting stuff. Made in Germany, not in China! Easy to store, will be one of the most used items I have ever bought for a kitchen. So helpful for the price!

Partial item for graters, vegetable cutters and slicers

This mini mandolin works very well but the instructions warn the user to "always use the safety bracket". The safety holder is not included in the scope of delivery and was also not offered at the time of purchase. The packaging says "Security holder sold separately". A safety holder is a must, of course, unless you want to include your fingertips in your lunchtime salad. The holder, since it is not included, should have been sold at the same time. Of course it is in stock, but the second…

Great little product!

I originally ordered this but they sent a cut to cut (sp?) instead. I wanted to return it but when I saw what it could do I didn't. I like it. We ordered and received the food slicer again. I've been using these cuts (made in Germany) since I came to this country. It's simple - all Americans want to use it to sell you a house and dozens of extras. No, just a simple slicer, please. We use it mainly for cucumber salad, but also for onions, shallots, beets, cabbage, etc. Nice and easy! Oh the…

Great simple slicer

Great little slicer. I gave it 4 stars because I love its simple design, just one blade that's easy to clean. So many different vegetable gadgets are inconvenient and difficult to clean, but it's like an old German vegetable cutter I've had for 25 years that recently broke after using it a few times a week. I was a bit confused when I first received the Borner Disc Slicer because the packaging says that it needs to be used with another accessory (vegetable holder) that is not included and can…

Brittle and Dull - Mandolins and Planes

I prefer the Kyrocena double-bladed ceramic plane, although the ceramic blade will fail after prolonged use. It's much sharper, so it just cuts better and faster. Borner costs less money and I thought a stainless steel blade would be more durable. The first thing I noticed about the Borner was how brittle the plastic sheet was, and the second was how much duller it was than the one I was using. While slicing a daikon radish with a large margin of safety but not a tight enough grip, the radish…
