Slightly shorter, about 1/2 inch for my Flexfit L/XL caps. The top of the hat touches the top and cannot lie naturally. I don't think it will distort the shape of the hat, but I'm not entirely sure. Maybe I'm too picky? It was hard to put together at first, but once I figured it out the rest was easy. However, I ordered a second set, so it's not that bad. I think it's the best there is. The only problem is that the drawers need to be a bit higher.

Thin and chunky for everyday use. The boxes slide onto the shelf in the closet and open with two hands. I was looking for an easily accessible storage solution for my husband's baseball caps that he wears every day. This won't be an answer, but they are very light and well thought out for portability and easy assembly. It may be suitable for you if you want to store rarely worn hats. As others have said, first time building can be a nightmare. It took me over 30 minutes to get the first one and didn't find the instructions or tutorial video helpful. You will notice two folding tabs on each side of the clear piece. They need to be bent inwards so that the ends of the box clamp them and fix the lock. I used to use a clear plastic bag to organize my hats. I'm not sure if this product is a significant improvement over what I've used before. The only reason I bought it was because I ran out of space in my previous organizer and decided to give it a try. It's easy to put together once you get the hang of it, and easy to take apart too.
