Description of Premium 4x10in Hopper Spider Strainer - Stainless Steel 300 Micron Mesh Filter for Homebrew Hops Beer & Tea Kettle Brewing

FILTER BEER, COFFEE, TEA: We love beer, but what is better than the beverage itself is the satisfaction of creating it; The G. Francis Brewing 4”x10” Inch Hopper Spider Strainer is designed for kettle brewing systems to contain hops while keeping debris out of pumps, chillers, and finished beer, resulting in a clearer beer and better taste; Suitable for brewing beer, filtering coffee, making compost tea, and putting into a boil pot. EASY TO USE: Two hook handles firmly secure this filter over the edge of your kettle and, during the boil, hops can be poured directly into the spider; For any standard electric brewing system. BUILT TO LAST: 300-micron mesh that will not wrinkle or damage easily; Frame made from firm stainless steel for strength and longevity; Will resist rust, corrosion, heat, and pressure; Enables easier sterilization prior to brewing and easy cleanup. EASY STORAGE: 2 kettle hanging hooks on top end of basket offers stability, user-friendliness, and versatility; Easier than beer cloth hops bags to remove, clean, and sanitize; Care of this hops spider is easy – you can put in the dishwasher as a separate load with no soap, or simply use a garden hose to wash it out; A no-rinse cleaner and sponge after you rinse it off also works. FILTER MORE: Filter has a 10-inch height and 4-inch diameter (25.4cm x 10.2cm); Suitable for hop pellet capacity of approximately 6 ounces (170g).

Works and well done.

I've had this for a few months now, just what I wanted, helps keep the beer clean. One mistake I made was not washing it before use (since I got it that morning and we brewed in the afternoon and I put it in boiling water). definitely. Wash it with soap and water before first use. Don't waste 5 gallons of beer like me.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • poorly thought out

No more Muslim hop bags

Fits great in my 10 gallon SS Brewtech brew kettle, the boil water line runs straight up, holds a couple ounces of hops and additives and is better than dealing with muslin bags. Easily removed at the end of the boil, fits in the wort chiller and rests even when the lid partially covers the kettle with enough clearance to prevent overcooking and lid tipping. Good product.

I made it - Filter and Strainer

I purchased this product with the intention of using it in my ANVIL 10.5 GALLON FOUNDRY Brewing System. However, the capacity is so high that the hop spider only reaches a fraction of the must. But because of its strength and height, I can place it directly in the jar without using the support tabs. If I had a standard cooker it would work as advertised. Easy to clean and disinfect, it's worth the investment.

Well built, but perhaps too finely woven?

Very well built. Used a few times and still looks like new. Make sure you keep it off the bottom of the kettle! I made the mistake of detaching it from the rim of my 20g kettle during boiling because I felt like the hops weren't circulating in the wort. Bad idea. It sat on the bottom of the kettle for about 15 minutes, but when I emptied it left a clean burned circle on the bottom. After fermentation, the beer tasted like burnt popcorn and was spoiled. 100% user error, not the fault of the…

. removed but had to reconsider because I was so happy with it

Only used once so far but had to reconsider because I was so happy with it. I thought it would filter leaf hops but was skeptical of using pellet hops which is the only one I use. He did a fantastic job using all the hop pellets in the brew, it looked like everything was still in the bin when I was done. My beer looked clear, squeezed out of a plate cooler. When I was done, the pot was practically clean with no dirt or hops clinging to the bottom on the sides. I literally had to wash it off. I…

Holds your hops in place.

For me, this is part of everyday brewing. I used to spend so much time and effort turning hops to the center. Now I only have 10% of the hop stuff I used to get. I have found that 300 microns retains more hop material from the wort than 400 microns. There were no problems with the use of hops either. Once or twice during the cooking I'll come and take it out of the pot and drain the seasoning. This ensures that the hops are used correctly. However, it drains slowly as it is 300 microns. It's…

very sturdy and allows me to add almost a pound.

Update after almost a year of use. Like it a lot. I ended up buying a second one. Great for just dropping hops or brewing aids and never worrying about bags again. It's also great to have a flake filter in your fermentor to filter out unwanted flakes and particles before they get inside. Original post. Very well done! very strong and allows me to add almost a pound of hop pellets to my beer. It acts as a filter to remove dirt etc and that way I only have crystal clear wort going into the…
